Leather was flat and smooth, took compound well, brilliant. PlexiGlass base along with high quality leather creates the perfect sharpening station to hone your knife's blade. The only thing I would like to see added is a higher base, maybe 1/2' - 3/4" - I would pay for that additional height because even though there is a no slip base, if you raise the strop on a secondary platform there is the potential for wobble and movement.
